How to fix speed issues on Windows
Follow these steps to troubleshoot slow speed issues on Windows devices.
NOTE: Some decrease in speed (around 30%) is expected when using a VPN on Windows. This is normal due to the encryption process.
1: Do not use the desktop app and browser extension at the same time
Running both the VPN Master Pro desktop application and the browser extension simultaneously can cause routing conflicts and reduced speeds.
- Decide which one you want to use (desktop app for system-wide protection or extension for browser-only).
- If you choose the desktop app, disable or log out of the browser extension.
- If you prefer the browser extension, disconnect and fully exit the desktop app (quit from the system tray).
- Reconnect using only the selected option and run a speed test.
- Repeat the test switching between app and extension (never both) to see which performs better for you.
Tip: The desktop app usually provides faster and more stable speeds for all applications, while the extension is lighter for quick browser-only usage.
2: Test several different locations
Even if you have used the Quick Connect button previously, you should try several other locations as well. Try the ones that are close to your physical location.
If you're not sure how to check if the speed has increased, visit a speed-testing website and do a quick test to see the results.
3: Try the manual connection
A manual VPN connection will provide you with a basic VPN connection, bypassing all the features that might potentially slow down your connection.
To set up manual connection:
- Go to Windows Settings > Network & Internet > VPN
- Add a VPN connection with VPN Master Pro server details
- Use the manual connection instead of the app temporarily
4: Restart your device
Even though this may sound too simple to have any effect, it often helps because rebooting your device will close all idle apps and stop other background processes that might be running.
Quick restart steps:
- Close VPN Master Pro app completely
- Restart your Windows computer
- Reopen VPN Master Pro and test connection speed
5: Disable interfering apps
Apps like anti-virus, file-sharing clients, or other VPNs might use the same tools and resources on your computer that VPN Master Pro needs. That can potentially slow down your VPN connection.
Disable those apps (at least temporarily), reboot your device, and see if that helps with the connection speed.
Common interfering applications:
- Other VPN applications
- Antivirus software with network protection
- Torrent or P2P file-sharing clients
- Network monitoring tools

- Update network drivers: Ensure your network adapter drivers are up to date.
